Student Activism: Speak Your Mind

They say students are believed to be in school to study. They are supposed to stay in school and abide with all the rules and regulations of the institution. It is unusual for students to speak out or express themselves. However, our generation today is far more different from before. Most of the students these days are becoming more and more liberated. They are not afraid to do what they wish to do.

Students, most especially teenagers, are impulsive. They do not think before they act. If they think that what they do is right, then they pursue their desires. Due to this behavior, student activism has been common in several universities.

Engaging into activism does not entail war or conflict. Sometimes it can just be a means of expressing one’s opinions towards something. Others engage into activism to speak up their minds. When school authorities do not listen to what the students want, student activism happens. Usually, this occurs when students want to express their freedom of speech to address issues concerning them. Engaging into rallies or protests is one way for the authorities to hear their pleas and find solutions to the students’ problems. Most protests result in a positive change, thus improves the school condition.
